Luisa, in the role of Grandma Dina’s grand-daughter, will take you on a journey into Genoese gastronomic traditions: an exploration of markets and typical shops rich in flavours and tales, culminating in a tasting lesson guided by a pesto professional and food historian – not to forget about the aperitivo “al pesto” final celebration.
With the help of Silvia we would dive into the XIIIth century events, the time when Corsican pirates used to ravage the richest part of Liguria, forcing the fishermen to move house to the hills of the present day Portofino Park. We will understand the consequences of such escape on the lifestyle of the fishermen who, obliged to hide from the plunderers, had to become farmers and mountaineers. We will walk over the paths of the Park, learning to recognise and cook with the forest herbs in order to prepare Genovese pesto according to the traditional recipe handed down to the innkeeper’s wife of the Antica Locanda of Mulino del Gassetta. Special surprises will not be missing when later we go down to the exclusive beaches along the course leading to Portofino, where, in the shoes of the survived fugitives, we will gather to celebrate the “Grazia Ricevuta” (Received Grace), at the ancient Church of Saint George.
Elena will introduce you to the astonishingly beautiful WWF Oasis of Alviano to participate in a photographic contest, created purposefully for you and that will last all day long, letting you do a hunt (a photographic one) of some of the rarest animals and plants living in the Oasis. The biology experts that the Park will provide for you, will introduce you to the peculiar natural chracteristics of the place, while Elena will have the pleasure to guide you into the basics of nature photography in ambush. You could participate in the competition alone or in a group. The classic final, in categories, will consider the points gathered during the execution of the assigned mission, apart from, obviously, the effective quality of the photos to be taken.
Clelia, “entered” in the role of Trotula, the most famous Lady Doctor in the almost thousand-year history of the University of Salerno, will help you comprehend the Medieval past of this splendid city, taking you to discover the most representative places of the city and the life of Doctress Trotula, describing in a popular way the salient aspects of the Medical School of Salerno in the period of its greatest splendour during the XI and XIIth century (female doctors, diagnosing the ill, use of plants for healing purposes, theory of the 4 moods of Hippocrates, an ancient Greek doctor). You will put on the shoes of a student in the Medical School of Salerno coming from Northern Europe, will explore the Botanical garden, known as the Giardino della Minerva (Garden of Minerva), and will be charged to look for botanical species with anti-poisonous qualities. You will learn to recognise certain plants and while enjoying the breathtaking landscape, will taste tisane of beneficial effects in the suggestive tisanehouse of the Botanical garden, in an bond of knowledge which links the Medical School of Salerno with the natural world of herbs.
Mariagrazia will be her own self as she is, one of the best hazelnut experts of Giffoni. Thanks to her, you will immerse in a fantasy story that goes around the IGP Hazelnut of Giffoni, specialty of the place, and you will be involved in a feast, created exclusively around you. During a walk along hazelnut orchards, you will get to know the properties of the IGP product, get acquainted with the typical local cuisine, preparing a full hazelnut-based menu, in particular the “fusilli” (a pasta type) hand made by means of umbrella stretchers; you will participate in the wedding celebration, the dinner, and the dances when you will learn the most beautiful traditional dances of Salerno. You will take part in a hunt (a photographic one) of the typical fauna of this wild territory which is situated at the Delta of the River Po and has still remained pristine. You will learn the secrets of grooming horses and prepare them for the walks of nobles. At the end of the day, you are to celebrate the success of the venture with a typical Venetian aperitif and, if your contribution is as impeccable as we expect, you will be rewarded with a Certificate of recognition by the very Countess.
